Hello all! Today, we’re discussing Aspec Rep! As Pride Month is coming to an end, it is still important to give support to fellow Aspecs all year round. I’ll be talking about what Aspec Rep currently looks like and shout out some of my favorite Aspec Rep accounts. I hope you had an amazing Pride Month!
During Pride Month, we see certain LGBTQIA+ identities represented in the media that are more widely accepted. Another unfortunate truth is that LGBTQIA+ gets a lot of negative attention as well, especially the trans community in our current times. Right now, it is extremely important that we are also giving support to our trans friends. The lens that is placed on the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month is especially zoomed in, but aspecs are still not included in the range (in some cases, this is good for us, but in other ways very bad). But, what about the exposure of Aspecs during Pride?
History was made this year when Yasmin Benoit was named Grand Marshall of the NYC Pride March. Benoit has paved the way in our current times for Aspec rep to be included at Pride. We can only hope that this continues, however it is important for all of us to continue spreading our voices around the community to get the proper appreciation we deserve. Otherwise, we are invisible at Pride celebrations. Aphobic comments also come towards us when it comes to our participation and attendance to Pride. It’s important that we continue to speak up and show out to bring that aspec representation to Pride celebrations. When doing so, make sure you are with people and have a safety plan just in case. One of the best ways to get representation out there for aspecs is to spread information and resources about aspec identities. There are some amazing accounts out there that do that! It is also important to give support to those who are aspec in any way you can. Whether they are authors, illustrators, comic book writers, podcasters, content creators, artists, etc., supporting these aspecs are important in boosting our community representation. With this in mind, I have provided a list below of aspec content creators that I recommend. Most of these creators are ace or discuss ace topics, but I am interested in finding some aro and agender content creators. If you know any, please DM me their information and I will update the list.
